The overlays for Imagic's games were largely utilitarian, and based upon in-game graphics. But the overlay for the Knight from Swords & Serpents strikes an awesome balance of composition and functionality. Imagic also made their overlays using a different process than the other vendors, opting for a more supple and durable material. The texture of the overlays also masks fingerprints and keeps them looking nicer.

There are only a few Imagic games for which there have been revisions to the overlays. Generally, the changes are minor, and identifying a revision is simple. All of the original versions have a part number ending in A, revisions have B. To date, no overlays of revision C or later have been found.
