Intellivision Games Software Hardware Overlays Trade Lists Other Stuff |
With the release of the Intellivision Flashback console in 2014, Intellivision Productions, working with AtGames, delivered a wonderful product. The controllers that come with the units are faithful to the original—possibly even better—and each unit comes with overlays for ten games. The choice of which ten games got the overlay treatment seems somewhat arbitrary. Some games that really need overlays are left out, while others, such as Buzz Bombers and Astrosmash, rate one. If you purchased your Intellivision Flashback from Sam's Club, you received a bonus–overlays for five additional games. Of course for many fans, an Intellivision game without overlays is intolerable. Happily, Intellivision Productions provides the Supplemental Overlay Pack for Intellivision Flashback. Demand for these packs was seriously underestimated, and, along with some other technical breakdowns at the online store in early December, 2014, there was some struggle to deliver orders in a timely fashion. The worst of these problems seem to have passed. Standard Set of Ten OverlaysThese are the overlays included in a standard Intellivision Flashback unit:
In the standard units, these small packs of overlays often come loose, and are held together by a simple strap. Bonus Overlays in Sam's Club EditionIn addition to the overlays listed above, overlays for the following five games are included as an exclusive add-in for Intellivision Flashback units sold at Sam's Club.
In the exclusive units, those found at Sam's Club (which contain overlays for five more games) and Dollar General, which includes the original Major League Baseball as a bonus game, the overlays are in a larger sleeve. Although the intent may be to prevent the overlays from flying around loose in the box, it still happens. Overlays included with the Flashback units are made from very thin material, and ship with a peel-off protective coating. The images of those overlays on this site were created with the coating still in place, so the colors may be more muted. Supplemental Overlay Pack for Intellivision FlashbackFinally, we have the granddaddy of them all–the overlays sold by Intellivision Productions. These are nicely made overlays—much nicer than those provided in the Flashback units directly—and the set includes some new variations as well! Titles in bold are for games previously unreleased in cartridge format, though they may have appeared as bonus games on previous compilation products. Note: The overlay packs typically include a fact sheet that gives a background story about Intellivision overlays on one side, and a list of the overlays provided in the package, as well as with the different versions of the Intellivision Flashback itself, on the other. Naturally, there have been variations in this supplement, both in the color and stock of paper used, as well as the list of overlays.
Complete ListingHere is a full listing of all the overlays known to be released, with variations, with the 2014 Intellivision Flashback and Supplemental Overlay Pack. Note: Unless otherwise indicated, images shown are from overlays in my personal collection. If you find a version of an overlay does not appear on this site, please report it!
