Activision Intellivision Games Software Hardware Overlays Trade Lists Other Stuff |
The first Activision games for Intellivision that I recall seeing were Pitfall and Stampede, which were rather pedestrian ports of their popular Atari VCS (later the 2600) counterparts. In my opinion, those games illustrated the wrong way to do Intellivision ports. The graphics and sound were not appreciably different than the Atari VCS games, and due to their design for a joystick controller, gameplay was more difficult than it should have been. To me, they seem like projects to learn to program the Intellivision, since later Activision titles were clearly much better. Of course, it helped when a few Mattel folks defected to Activision, too. :) I guess, looking at history, Activision won the day over all those third-party game companies. Based on the general quality of their Atari VCS and Intellivision games, I'd say they're deserving of their success.
